Job Summary
Responsible to provide technical support to internal and external clients including day-to-day operations, maintenance and system functions and perform troubleshooting on systems and/or technical issues. Carry out preventative maintenance work and projects while assisting with the review of programs and services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Transit Equipment, the incumbent performs basic repair, maintenance and testing of bus equipment, i.e. Radios, Cameras, Fare Collection, Passenger Counter Systems, Modems and CAD/AVL equipment to ensure bus availability.
- Working under the direction of the Supervisor assists in the maintenance of bus equipment.
- Responsible for On-Board Radio, Cameras, Fare Collection, Passenger Counters, Modems and CAD/AVL Equipment, trouble shooting and low-level component repairs. Working to develop structure problem solving plans to test for potential problems and develop solutions pro-actively.
- Maintaining a Preventative Maintenance work schedule.
- Ensuring stable and smooth implementation of changes and/or repairs to minimize downtime.
- Identifying work and following up on work contracted to the vendor. Ensuring that records are complete and accurate. Providing related information to Supervisor at regular intervals for budget monitoring and vendor management purposes.
- Maintaining a working knowledge of safe work practices. Ensuring that systems and process changes adhere to manufacturer’s specifications and/or transit’s modified standards.
- Solving technical problems that require specialized knowledge.
- Performing day to day operational functions.
- Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of spreadsheets to ensure that all data requests from internal and external clients are recorded, processed and invoiced.
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in mobile electronics and transportation or a related discipline.
- Experience in complex 12- and 24-Volt systems an asset.
- A valid class “G” driver’s license.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
- 310K License or MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional Certificate) preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and complete competing tasks.
- Ability to stay self‑motivated and work independently.
- Strong written, verbal and team communication skills.
- Requires lifting of supplies/equipment. Exposure to computer keyboards and screens.
- Outdoor work required at times.
- Primarily shop environment and nights/weekend shifts.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,080.00 - $ 92,107.00
