Job Summary
As a Traffic Operations Technician, under the direction of your immediate supervisor, you will be responsible for executing various traffic functions within Traffic Services. Your duties will include conducting research, site studies and observations, preparing reports and presentations, communicating with stakeholders, and making recommendations to enhance roadway and pedestrian safety.
2 contracts: 1 ending July 22, 2025, and the other on Dec 31, 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitoring to ensure inspections are undertaken in a timely manner.
- Review concerns from residents or elected officials.
- Providing documentation and information in response to claims against the City of Mississauga.
- Perform investigative work to gather relevant background information upon receipt of Service Requests.
- Solve technical problems that require specialized knowledge.
- Attend various management meetings when required as subject matter expert.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to keep up to date with the latest product development.
- Part of team assigned to complete projects related to specialised equipment testing, installation and standards review.
- Prepare correspondence and reports to Committee, Councillors and the general public ensuring all information is accurate and factual.
- Ensure that all recommendations are in accordance with City and industry standards.
- Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of spreadsheets to ensure that all data requests from internal and external clients are recorded, processed and invoiced.
- Researches and stays abreast with current technology.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must have successfully completed a 3 year Community College program in Transportation Engineering Technology or related discipline.
- A minimum of 1 to 3 years related experience is required.
- Must demonstrate strong knowledge of traffic engineering practices, Ontario Traffic manual and Highway Traffic Act.
- Excellent organization with the ability to manage competing tasks.
- Strong written, verbal and team communication skill sets.
- May require lifting of supplies/equipment. Exposure to computer keyboards and screens. Must be physically capable of carrying out the essential duties of the job.
- Microsoft Office, Microstation, Max, various traffic proprietary software application experience and sound file management skills is an asset.
- A CET designation or equivalent is an asset.
- Must have access to a vehicle to travel within the city as require and there may be a need to operate City vehicles. Must hold and provide a valid class “G” driver’s license and driver's abstract.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 67,068.00 - $ 89,424.00
