Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager, Park Planning the successful applicant will lead an interdisciplinary team pf Planners and Landscape Architect to strategically plan for the provision of parkland and facilities across Mississauga while engaging residents in various Park Planning studies and strategies . Develops and implements consistent process to ensure rigorous plans that reflect changing needs of the residents, compliments plans from other divisions and departments, with particular attention to developing innovative and proactive approaches to address challenges as they relate to planning. Provide guidance to the team in managing City’s parks, recreational land and potential assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads individual and team projects in the development of various park related strategic planning studies
- Demonstrate leadership in project management strategies through project initiation planning, executing and closing stages
- Oversee and deliver parkland studies, including policy reviews and legislative compliance
- Facilitate community engagement in park planning, including indigenous consultation, and develop strategies to address public interest.
- Mentor team members, fostering professional growth and aligning work with organizational goals
- Provide support to the Manager with on-going activities associated with the operation of the section, recruitment and training.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive approach to public engagement for the development of long term plans.
- Prepares presentations to senior management, Council and the public on park plans as required.
- Prepares corporate reports as required.
- Participates in divisional, department and corporate committees and special projects.
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized university in Planning or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years' related experience in land use planning.
- Demonstrated project and contract management skills including time management, negotiation and cost control skills.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to build, mentor and lead performance driven teams while aligning with organization values, setting priorities and undertaking multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to liaise effectively with elected officials, outside agencies and the public.
- Knowledge of related computer applications required including Word, Excel and Access.
- Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners or related association is required
- Exposure to computer keyboards and screens. Primarily office environment with occasional site visits.
- Valid driver's license with access to a vehicle is required.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 97,831.00 - $ 130,442.00
