Job Summary
Plan, organize and arrange for all maintenance activities to ensure public safety within one of two service Districts in the City. Maintenance activities include: road pavement maintenance; sidewalk repairs; storm sewer repairs; leaf pick up; drainage and creek maintenance; tracing and cleaning environmental spills; winter maintenance of roads, sidewalks, and bus stops; assistance to the fire department; boulevard cleaning; and dealing with encroachment issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with established service levels and in compliance with internal City policies and agreements, (e.g., workplace violence, harassment, standards of behaviour, the Collective Agreement), provincial legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act, Minimum Maintenance Standards), and boundary road agreements with adjacent municipalities.
- Monitor external contractors as well as in-house unionized staff, materials and equipment for works operations programs.
- Respond daily to complaints from residents and councillors and concerns from public agencies, regions, etc.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, environmental hazards, flooding, hazardous road conditions.
- On rotational call 24/7/12 to meet emergency situations.
- Supervise and train unionized employees, assistant supervisor, temp staff, winter works inspectors and maintenance coordinators.
- Input payroll, budget, legal records, work order reports.
- Investigate and resolve issues, and grievances.
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety standards and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
- Ontario Good Roads Supervisor Certificate and/or Certificate Engineering Technologist
- 5 years’ experience in municipal maintenance service area
- 2 years supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs and appropriate City applications.
- Operating equipment or machinery requiring practiced movements or hand/eye coordination.
- Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and screens. Primarily work is performed offsite, in a vehicle or a site.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 100,277.00 - $ 133,703.00
