Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor of Library Processing and Material Handling, and under the direction of the Manager of Library Collections & Material Handling, the supervisor oversees the daily operations of a section of the department and serves as a system resource for material handling and processing issues.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees the daily operations of a section of the department; in the absence of the Supervisor, may be responsible for the department
  • Serves as a system resource for material handling and processing issues
  • Coordinates routines such as: system-wide interlibrary loan services, including related financial transactions; scheduling vehicle maintenance; courier deliveries; and item record mainenance
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies, including supplies delivery to branches and departments
  • Responsible for the preparation of payroll, attendance, and financial records
  • Participates in supervision, scheduling, training an /or evaluation as appropriate
  • Maintains an awareness of current trends and needs
  • May participate on task teams or special projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
  • Secondary school graduation plus three years library experience; or a university degree, Library and Information Technician diploma and some library experience; Library and Information Technician diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are essential in dealing with staff and customers
  • Effective written and oral skills in English are essential
  • Ability to lead others
  • Good working knowledge of integrated library systems, library electronic resources, the internet, and other databases; experience with SirsiDynix Symphony would be an asset
  • Strong computers skills in MS Office products and relevant software required; familiarity with SAP would be an asset
  • Some lifting is involved

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 49,643.88 - $ 59,771.92 
Grade: 4 
Hours of Work: 35 hours

Non-Union/Union: CUPE 


Please note: This is a bargaining unit position.  CUPE Local 1989 members will be given consideration for this vacancy, as per the collective agreement, followed by all other employees.
