Supervisor, Recreation Support Services

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, City-Wide Programs, the Supervisor, Recreation Support Services is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the Recreation Support Program and inclusion framework to support and facilitate accessibility for individuals with disabilities in recreation and culture and support the implementation of therapeutic programming.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain positive and effective relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders and system partners to advance the strategic priorities of the City of Mississauga Recreation Division
  • Provide leadership for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives including the inclusion framework, providing direction to both the therapeutic line of business and support services for individuals with special needs.
  • Support the expansion of the therapeutic line of business through partnership opportunities and direct program delivery.
  • Support City-Wide Recreation and Culture Programs lines of business areas in the development, coordination, promotion, and provision of quality adapted programs and services in alignment with applicable strategic plans
  • Support for the development of agreements with community groups as required.
  • Provide support to full-time and part-time staff training related to inclusion, recreation support and behaviour management.
  • Act as a resource for co-workers in supporting individuals in programs (i.e. special needs, behaviour management etc.)
  • Provide direct supervision to the Recreation Programmer, Inclusion and manage the Recreation Support program including program development, intake, staffing, and budget.
  • Provide information to facility and operational planning staff as requested
  • Maintain required statistics, conduct environmental scans, needs assessments and other activities to inform program/service development and continuous improvement
  • Provides customer service to co-workers, management, public and politicians on related issues.
  • Support Customers in navigating the recreation system to support their individual needs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree, diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in recreation services, community programming, or working with persons with disabilities, preferably in a public service setting.
  • Experience leading and supporting teams, including program staff and community partners.
  • Experience in developing work processes and conducting business process reviews, advising on and supporting the implementation of new tools.
  • Experience in program planning, service delivery, and continuous improvement with an emphasis on equity and accessibility.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify barriers and implement adaptive solutions to support diverse participants.
  • Excellent customer service skills, report writing skills and presentation skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse community stakeholders and equity-deserving groups, including persons with disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of barrier-free and inclusive programming principles, accessibility standards, and community engagement strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and work in consultation with internal staff as well as external groups.
  • Ability to prioritize needs and take appropriate action quickly
  • Ability to perform physical support interventions where required, with appropriate training and  accommodations as needed.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point required. Knowledge of ActiveNet, R3, SAP is an asset.


 

Hourly Rate/Salary: $49.16 - $65.54
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
