Supervisor, Library Processing & Material Handling

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Library Collections & Material Handling, the successful candidate will supervise the Material Handling and Processing sections for Mississauga Library.  This includes supervising a large and diverse staff team, the delivery of excellent technical and customer services, and ensuring new material processing and branch deliveries are responsive to community needs.  The Supervisor, Library Material Handling & Processing is a member of Mississauga Library System’s leadership team and is actively involved in committees and projects to help meet the organization’s strategic ends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Library Collections & Material Handling, is responsible for the provision of receiving, processing, interlibrary loans, and courier services.

  • Responsible for planning, developing, directing, and evaluating operations and resources within the material handling and processing business sections
  • Responsible for developing, directing, coaching, and evaluating staff in a unionized environment
  • Develop services levels, guidelines, and standards for receiving, processing, and linking materials
  • Ensure delivery of library materials and related items in a timely, cost effective manner
  • Responsible for provision of interlibrary loan service to Mississauga Library customers and to libraries, primarily in Ontario and Canada
  • Manages relationships with vendors, SOLS (Southern Onlario Library Services), Materiel Management, Transportation & Works, and others for Material Handling and Processing related areas (supplies, courier vans, interlibrary loans, etc)
  • Contributes to the business unit and system's continued success through participation in special projects and system initiatives
  • Monitors and ensures a safe, secure, and clean work environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
Skills and Qualifications
  • Library and Information Technician diploma required
  • 3 to 5 years supervisory experience leading teams in various library settings; experience in library technical services would be an asset
  • Excellent customer service, leadership, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
  • Superior communication (verbal, written, presentation), problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated experience and success with change management
  • Excellent working knowledge of integrated library software systems; experience with SirsiDynix Symphony would be an asset
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word and Excel; experience with SAP would be an asset

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,629.00 - $ 92,842.00 
Hours of Work: 35 hours
