Job Summary

Are you a dynamic, team-focused individual with a passion for fitness and service excellence?  The City of Mississauga is seeking a Fitness Supervisor who will initiate, develop and supervise a diversified group of fitness/wellness programs to meet the needs of the community.  You will report to the Fitness Manager and work with an experienced team of industry professionals managing fitness and therapeutic programming across the City.  Working as part of the community centre supervisory team, you will also assist in the general supervision of the building, programs and staff and maintain excellent public relations and customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Manager of Fitness, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a diversified fitness program menu to meet the needs of a variety of age groups to the immediate and neighboring communities of the fitness facility
  • The successful candidate will:  initiate, design and deliver quality programs that encourage the incorporation of physical activity and healthy lifestyles into the daily lives of community residents
  • Lead a diversified part-time staff team which will include specialized fitness instructors; expand program delivery through the use of volunteers and committees
  • Develop outreach programs to introduce fitness concepts to the community
  • Participate as part of the Fitness Team and facility team to ensure a coordinated approach to service delivery and facility utilization and support the fitness line of business
  • Work in cooperation with the Supervisor of Operations and Facility Manager to ensure a high standard of cleanliness
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Central Services Staff and district Parks Staff
  • Work with District Community Development Staff to ensure all demographics have appropriate recreation opportunities
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise program staff; maintain all required statistics and prepare reports as required; recommend and manage an annual operating budget
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Recreation, Physical Education, Kinesiology or equivalent with a minimum of three years full-time related experience
  • Current certification in personal training and/or group exercise through CSEP, CANFIT PRO, CPTN, OFC, ACSM or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with program design and delivery, CLASS program maintenance, customer service, budget management, partnership program delivery and volunteer group dynamics
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a changing team environment and also possess a genuine interest in broadening your experience
  • Able to support other areas within the facility team  


Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 82,049.00 - $ 109,400.00
