Supervisor, Community Programs

Job Summary

Facilitate the development, implementation and supervision of diversified recreation programs to meet the needs of the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, organize, administer, evaluate and market/promote a comprehensive menu of programs to meet the needs of all age groups and a diversity of clients.
  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of customer questions, complaints, concerns, and issues.
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
  • Work closely with other centre program supervisors, Library, Schools, Community Agencies, Facility Operations,Operational Planning, and various other partners.
  • Participate as part of the building supervisory team and assist in the general supervision of the building (including Manager on Duty shifts), programs, staff; and maintain excellent public relations and customer service.
  • Ensure a coordinated approach of service delivery, space utilization and maximize cross-over programming.
  • Encourage community involvement in the use of the facilities.
  • Hire, coach, train, schedule and supervise staff.
  • Coordinate a diversified part-time staff compliment which will include specialized instructors for the delivery of recreation services.
  • Expand program delivery through the use of volunteers, committees, outside agencies and partners.
  • Maintain all required statistics and prepare reports as required.
  • Recommend and monitor annual operating budget.
  • Ensure compliance to existing City Recreation Standards and Corporate Policies.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation, Phys Ed, Kinesiology or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years progressive experience in Recreation or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, structural software applications, and all other appropriate City software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development, design and delivery of general interest recreation programs and camps (including budget management, staff supervision, volunteer dynamics and community development).
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skill in working with staff, community groups, outside agencies and public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability toestablish effective working relationships.
  • May require some lifting of supplies/materials.
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and interest in broadening your experience is desired.
  • Proficient computer skills in Active Net registration system is an asset.
  • Knowledge of R3/SAP is an asset.
  • Must have current CPR, Standard First Aid Certification, HIGH FIVE - PHCD, Quest 1 and Quest 2 (or willing toobtain within the first 6 months of start date).
  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s licence, access to a reliable vehicle for site visits is an asset.
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $86,858.00 - $115,812.00
