Job Summary
The Transit Planning Summer Student position is responsible for assisting the planning, design, and analysis of transit services to determine the best possible service for customers. This includes undertaking, with direction from the Supervisor of Transit Planning, statistical and economic analyses of new service proposals and the ongoing evaluation of existing transit services.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Undertaking statistical and economic analyses of the performance of transit service and identifying means by which to make transit services more cost-effective and beneficial to customers, and compiling and communicating findings to the Transit Planning team;
• Assisting the Transit Planning team in developing recommendations with respect to new routes and services and service improvements on existing routes, particularly in relation to the Annual Service Plan;
• Analysing ridership data and other information for service changes on existing routes and assisting Transit Planners in developing service designs for transit operations;
• Conducting on-site visits and reporting back to the Service Planning team on the status of various topics, including route/stop activity and/or development projects (using written text and digital photography) Assists with ridership surveys (e.g., administrative functions of planning work, preparing field sheets, etc.) Conducts ridership surveys (e.g., On/off counts, transfer traces, etc.)
• Undertaking special projects within the Service Development team (i.e. for Transit Scheduling team & Data Management Team), as requested by the Supervisor of Transit Planning.
• Responds to customer service concerns and feedback on behalf of Service Planners when required
• Performing other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a post-secondary related program, ideally with at least two years of study towards an undergraduate degree in geography, environmental studies, planning, statistics, or engineering
• Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software, and accuracy and proficiency utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and scheduling applications
• Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, corporate core competencies including communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability
• Organizational skills to set priorities and work independently demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail while meeting deadlines in the presence of frequent interruptions
• Good communication skills to deal with internal and external customers
• Requires general knowledge of public transit services and principles, and of the role of transit service in the community.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required
Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53

Work Location: 3484 Semenyk Court
Work Model: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week and allowing remote work for the remaining days. Specific in-office days may be set by the team or department to support collaboration and business needs.
