As part of the Traffic, Storm and Environment Planning team, you will be responsible for performing technical duties related to stormwater management in support of development applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Traffic, Storm & Environment Planning, the Storm Drainage Technologist will be required to:

  • Review and comment on development applications, including engineering plans and reports related to storm drainage, erosion and sedimentation control permits, hydrologic and hydraulic computations and modeling, and the design of stormwater assets
  • Provide the necessary expertise in the preparation and review of reports and analysis of data related to storm drainage to ensure adherence to design standards and policies
  • Review and issue relevant environmental permits and approvals required for development applications
  • Provide specialized engineering input as required to other sections on matters related to storm drainage including applications for land and easement acquisitions
  • Investigate, assess and prepare solutions to complaints related to storm drainage concerns
  • Liaise with other City staff, consultants and public in response to inquiries pertaining to the City’s drainage standards and requirements
  • Represent the City at meetings with external agencies, public meetings and discussion groups as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary graduate from a recognized university with a degree in Civil, Water Resources or a related engineering program and a registered P.Eng. designation in good standing with the PEO (or eligibility), or a post-secondary graduate from a recognized college in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Science or a related applied science technology program with a registered C.E.T. designation in good standing with OACETT (or eligibility).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the municipal engineering field with experience in the planning, design and management of stormwater assets.
  • Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic computer modeling.
  • Sound judgement and ability to carry out work assignments independently and as part of a divisional team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to assist in the preparation of reports and comments, and to interact with various internal departments as well as members of Council, external agencies, consultants and developers in a tactful and politically sensitive manner.
  • Ability to represent the Traffic, Storm & Environment Planning section at public and community meetings from a Stormwater perspective.
  • A good working knowledge of standard computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must be able to provide own transportation options to attend off-site meetings at various locations within the City of Mississauga.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
