Visit Mississauga has an opportunity to further develop your career in the field of sport tourism and drive new business to grow our visitor economy. Reporting to the Manager of Tourism, and as a key member of the Visit Mississauga Sales team, you will provide professional expertise on the sport tourism sector.
Duties and Responsibilities
• First point of contact for provincial & national sport rights holders
• Manage RFP’s, bids, site visits and familiarization tours
• Attend national sport tourism tradeshows and conventions
• Manage and negotiate host city benefits/agreement for events
• Prepare an annual event pursuit plan and participate in planning during annual budget/business planning cycle
• Actively build relationships and identify event bids and hosting opportunities
• Create and foster strong working relationships with team members, internal and external stakeholders
• Attend/participate in industry events
• Encourage cross departmental thinking and collaboration, interpret individual and department concerns, anticipate issues and opportunities
• Research alternative/emerging best practices, processes, tools and techniques, assess their effectiveness and make recommendations as it relates to sport tourism
• Provide consultation and advice to management and staff as required
• Develop, solicit, and acquire sporting events to achieve annual definite room night goals in new sport market segments.
• Manage budget associated with specific area/event responsibilities
• Develop and prepare sensitive correspondence including emails, briefing notes, corporate reports, and corporate policies using political acuity, logic and exceptional judgment skills
• Evenings and weekends may be required
• Business travel will be required
• Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
• Graduate from a recognized university or college in Tourism, Sport Business Management or related field
• Minimum of four years’ experience in sport tourism sector
• Experience in professional sales or business development
• Knowledge of Sport and an ability to work with PSO’s & NSO’s (Provincial Sport Organization & National Sport Organizations)
• Demonstrated ability to support and co-ordinate events
• Must possess excellent customer service skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must possess ability to establish effective working relationships in team environment
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities along with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Excellent computer and technology skills including, social media, CRM, Microsoft Office
• Self motivated with strong oral, written and public presentation skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a broad range of stakeholders
• Flexible work hours are required, including evenings and weekends
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
Hours of Work: 35
