Job Summary

As a DevOps Specialist, you will work with technical teams across the organization to implement DevOps strategies and automate applications and infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments. You will be responsible for understanding requirements and designing, documenting, supporting and delivering secure, scalable and reliable solutions within a defined framework.
The successful candidate will collaborate with software development teams, project managers and infrastructure architects to design, build, deploy, operate and monitor enterprise applications and services. Responsibilities include implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), cloud automation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions and operational best practices.
This role requires hands-on experience with AWS services including ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, Route 53, CloudWatch, IAM and networking services, as well as Windows and Linux administration. Experience with Azure DevOps, scripting, AI-assisted tools and automation is also desirable. Occasional work outside regular business hours is a requirement of the position. The role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week and allowing remote work for the remaining days. Specific in-office days may be set by the team or department to support collaboration and business needs. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and support DevOps practices, cloud infrastructure, automation solutions and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code and configuration management solutions using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Ansible or similar tools.
  • Configure, manage and troubleshoot AWS services including ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, Route 53, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC and Elastic Load Balancing.
  • Develop and support containerized applications using Docker and Amazon ECS, and administer Windows and Linux environments across cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
  • Develop automation and integrations using PowerShell, Python, YAML, REST APIs and related technologies.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, logging and performance optimization solutions for applications and infrastructure.
  • Investigate and resolve application, infrastructure, networking, security and deployment issues.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, security and business teams to deliver production-ready solutions that comply with City standards and industry best practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational procedures and recovery plans.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted DevOps tools and Microsoft Power Platform, to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance, training and knowledge transfer to staff and project teams.
  • Participate in after-hours support, maintenance activities and emergency response as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline, or possess an equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, DevOps Specialist, Cloud Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, DevOps principles, source control and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar platforms.
  • Strong experience configuring and supporting AWS environments, including ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, Route 53, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC and load balancing services.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef or Puppet.
  • Experience with Docker, Amazon ECS and containerized application delivery.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python and YAML.
  • Related IT certifications are an asset. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect or equivalent is preferred.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Windows and Linux administration, monitoring, logging and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, collaboration and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently or within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms would be considered an asset.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI-assisted tools for software development, infrastructure operations and DevOps workflows would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate, would be considered an asset.
  • May require light lifting of supplies or materials and prolonged use of computer keyboards and screens in a primarily office-based environment.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 50.39 - $ 67.18
