Job Summary

 

Responsible for ensuring a safe skating experience during outdoor public skates, to meet the needs of all participants through monitoring compliance of the Skaters Code of Conduct.

 

Shifts will be assigned at Celebration Square and Port Credit Memorial Park.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive public skating program during public skates to meet the needs of all participants through monitoring compliance of the Skaters Code of Conduct, ongoing supervision and excellent customer service and staff relations.
  • Ensure participants are wearing appropriate equipment.
  • Deal with customer service issues and escalate to Rink Operators if required.
  • Assist in conducting safety checks of ice conditions and surrounding area.
  • Monitor use of allowed equipment.
  • Assist during ice resurfacing to ensure safety of rink users.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Perform First Aid, assess incidents and accidents.
  • Assist with winter maintenance and park sanitation functions, including shovelling, salting and garbage removal.
  • Ensure Incident/Accident forms are completed and submitted.
  • Ongoing inventory of First Aid equipment/supplies.
  • Communication with Operations staff and Corporate Security as required.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Must hold a valid Emergency or Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR B or C (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross Society,  St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol) certification (must be recognized by WSIB). The certificate must be valid during the employment period and is provided at the employee's expense.
  • Strong skating skills and knowledge of safe on-ice practices.
  • Exposure to cold temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Willingness to work at other outdoor rink locations as required.
  • Shift work is required – including evenings, weekends and holidays. 
  • A Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

 

Hourly Rate/Salary: 17.20 - 18.92 
Hours of Work: Up to 24
