Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Community Programs, the successful candidate will be responsible to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive Public Skating Program during Public Skates to meet the needs of all participants through monitoring compliance of the Skaters Code of Conduct, ongoing supervision and excellent customer and staff relations.
 

  • Ensure participants are wearing appropriate equipment for the program.
  • Deal with customer service issues and escalate to Lead Skate Patroller if required.
  • Assist in onducting safety checks of ice conditions, programming space (condition of boards, gates, glass, etc.).
  • Monitor use of allowed equipment.
  • Ensure ice is clear pre and post skate.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Perform First Aid, assess accidents and incidents.
  • Perform administrative tasks as required such as ratios are maintained and report to Lead Skate Patroller.
  • Ensure accident/incident forms; behaviour reports, etc. are completed and submitted.
  • Enforce a zero tolerance policy of abusive behaviour in accordance with the violence and vandalism policy.
  • Assist public with general program information.
  • Inform full time supervisor of any staffing/participant issues that may compromise the program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A valid Emergency First Aid & CPR B certification (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol).
  • Strong skating skills and knowledge of safe on ice practices.
  • Exposure to cold working environment.
  • Primarily arena location.
  • Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Level III - Vulnerable Sector Check from a Police Unit that is acceptance to the City of Mississauga.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $15.27 - $16.98 
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week
