SAP Payroll & Time Support Specialist

Job Summary

Provide professional technical and functional expertise in areas of technology, processes, operating procedures for SAP Payroll, Time and Human Capital Management.  Responsible for the integrity of electronic data, systems, processes and policies.  Act as a subject matter expert.

Due to Covid-19, most of our offices are currently closed to protect the health and safety of our employees, clients and community. As such, this position will be required to work remotely for an undetermined period. Once our offices re-open, an alternative work arrangement may be applied.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Project Manager, SAP Business Support, the successful candidate will: 

 

  • Support clients on SAP S/4 HANA Payroll and Time modules including related Fiori and other processes.
  • Gather requirements and issues by interviewing clients in partnership with business area and subject matter experts.
  • Research, evaluate and implement new functionality in SAP S/4 HANA to improve system use and results.
  • Develop and prepare requirements documents including time estimates on development/configuration, testing, documentation, and training.
  • As a member of the team, identify, design and implement new business processes and solutions including change management.
  • Provide functional expertise for projects/systems that integrate with SAP Payroll/Time module.
  • Manage and maintain application including reviewing and identifying relevant SAP notes to be applied.
  • Responsible for testing Support Package updates on a timely basis and ensuring that the updates are accurately applied.
  • Respond to help desk calls and provide solutions to client satisfaction including troubleshooting software problems and engaging external consultants when needed.
  • Maintain communication with user groups through electronic bulletins, email, and other communication methods including leading key user and/or user meetings to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design, prepare, improve and maintain training documentation to be used to train staff on Payroll processes including delivery of training.
  • Maintain and upgrade skills in relation to current and new technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  •  Post-secondary education in the field of Human Resources Management, Business or in a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years of Canadian Payroll experience.
  • Minimum three years of SAP Time and Payroll configuration and support on ECC 7.31 EHP 6+ or S/4 HANA (1809+).
  • In depth knowledge of HR management and Payroll policies, procedures and administrative functions.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience to configure Payroll and Time schemas (read, modify, create), create / modify wage types, CATS, Time Recording, Time Evaluation and configure rules related to Collective Agreements (unions).
  • Extensive experience in end-to-end payroll / time processes including DME, configuration and integration with Finance and Third Party Vendors, Canadian payroll taxation and year-end processing.
  • Hands-on experience in analysing, troubleshooting and sustainment of systems by providing day-to-day support and working with multiple stakeholders and recommend process improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience in Fiori related processes (time entry, leave, etc.).
  • Ability to use standard reports and design, create and use of Ad Hoc Query and SAP Query.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills along with strong organizational, research, decision-making, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills to convey concepts/solutions to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to train and present to others individually, in a classroom or in an auditorium setting.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment and maintain confidentiality of information.

 

The following skills and qualifications are assets and strongly preferred:

 

  • Canadian Payroll Association certification – Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) / Certified Payroll Manager (CPM).
  • SAP certification in Human Capital Management in ECC (EHP 6+) or S/4 HANA.
  • Municipal experience in providing IT Support for SAP Payroll including OMERS Pension Configuration / Reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in Payroll Control Centre.
  • Demonstrated payroll integration experience with enterprise automated scheduling systems to S/4 HANA.
  • Knowledge, use or experience with related SAP modules (e.g. FI/CO or Simple Finance) and working knowledge of ABAP.
  • Familiarity with applications such as Winshuttle, Clone & Test, Service Desk support software, SharePoint, SnagIt.
