Programmer, Recreation Aquatics

Job Summary

Create, staff and maintain programs to service the diverse needs of the community. Provide resolution to any customer complaints and concerns effectively and timely.  Ensure safety standards are maintained at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with a team, plan, develop and implement various programs, (i.e. “learn to” programs, recreation swim/skate programs, therapeutic programs, older adult, special events, etc.).
  • Provide customer service, resolving issues, and communicating new programs/ changes/cancellations.  
  • Functional guidance of part-time staff and volunteers, coordinating staff and volunteer orientation, preparing materials for all programs and staff training, etc.
  • Produce in-house marketing materials using various software programs.
  • Take part in budget forecast/management functions, invoice payment, etc.
  • Risk management and facility operations, working closely with facility operations staff to minimize risk.
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
  • Comply with relevant City policies.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance on projects/initiatives within the unit/team.
  • Use information that is stored within the unit/team and/or available without special authorization.
  • Responsible for input into budget preparation, monitoring, forecasting, maintenance, etc.
  • Functional guidance of part-time instructors/guards/ attendants/cashiers/youth leaders, etc. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Recreation, Physical Education or a related field along with three years recreation experience in an aquatic setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience at a progressive level.
  • Must be proficient in computer software application including Word, Excel, ActiveRec Software (program registration, program maintenance and report printing) and SAP Software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships, provide excellent customer service and work in a team environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete work in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Must hold and maintain a minimum of National Lifeguard; Standard First Aid/CPR-C from one of the following agencies: Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Canadian Ski Patrol; Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor certifications, Aquatic Supervisory Training or Aquatic Management Training;
  • Must be certified in High Five- PHCD and Quest 2
  • NL Instructor, and Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor, Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, Bronze Cross Examiner and Lifesaving Society Advanced Instructor certifications are definite assets.
  • Professional accreditation and or training in aquatic fitness and aquatic post rehabilitation, older adult programming or related services, development and delivery of general recreation programming is preferred.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $67,068.00 - $89,424.00
