Job Summary

Skate your way into the city!

Teach basic to advanced skating skills to participants ranging in age from 3 to adult through group lessons.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Program Supervisor or Head Pro the successful candidate will be responsible for running group ice skating classes for participants ages 3 to adult as developed by the Recreation Division to meet the needs of participants and ensure adequate safety while teaching.
  • Attend and participate in trainings and meetings as scheduled
  • Plan and deliver skating lessons based on the program outline supplied.
  • Effectively and in a timely manner communicate any issues/information that could impact the quality and safe delivery of the program to your direct supervisor
  • Prepare equipment at the start of each program and clean up and store equipment properly at the end of each program
  • Report all accidents/incidents to their immediate Supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Maintain class records as required
  • Evaluate skating participants and complete progress cards when required
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery when instruction involves participants from the ages of 6 to 12 years of age
  • Perform various other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Skate Canada certification preferred.
  • Hockey and recreational skating experience will be considered.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid / CPR B or C certification that is 565 approved (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross Society, St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol)
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide own skates and CSA approved hockey helmet 
  • PHCD (Principles of Healthy Child Development) or High Five Sport certification.
  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, leadership, customer service, organization and planning.
  • Ability to interact with a diversity of patrons/parents and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Ability to adjust coaching techniques based on the strength and weaknesses of participants.
  • Must like working with children and adults.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to skate at the level required for instruction


Hourly Rate/Salary: $21.36 - $23.38 
Hours of Work: 4 - 20 hours per week 
Work Location: Malton Arena
