Job Summary

 

The City of Mississauga has an opportunity for a Marketing Consultant, Digital Services to join our Strategic Communications & Initiatives Division, reporting to the Supervisor, Digital Services.

This role uniquely blends digital marketing, social media strategy and communications with a focus on both paid advertising and organic storytelling, within a municipal government environment.

 

About You:

 

As a Marketing Consultant, Digital Services, you are a motivated team-player who has a passion for digital marketing, engaging storytelling and a demonstrated history of collaboration. You are meticulous and organized, with diverse skills that can be applied to a variety of digital platforms and channels.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Digital Marketing Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

 

  • Creating and delivering digital marketing strategies and storytelling that builds trust, engages community participation, and increases awareness of City programs, services, and information;
  • Leading the digital strategy and execution of paid ad buying across City of Mississauga channels;
  • Managing and optimizing ad operations across Meta, Google, LinkedIn, and Reddit based in data-driven audience insights and detailed performance analysis;
  • Supporting the creation of creative and engaging plain-language content that helps residents understand City programs, public safety information, seasonal service updates, engagement initiatives, and more;
  • Ensuring all content (paid and organic) aligns with City priorities, brand, governance, and accessibility standards;
  • Defining measurable KPIs and establishing trackable performance indicators and integrating their measurement into multi-channel campaigns (paid and organic) to deliver key insights;
  • Reporting for campaigns, audience building, targeting, and understanding of behavior in target markets;
  • Curating and maintaining multi-platform content calendars, integrating both marketing objectives and communication needs;
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams including digital marketers, communications advisors, creative designers, internal departments, and vendors (as needed) to develop compelling visuals, videos, copy and digital assets;
  • Building and managing paid campaigns, including audience segmentation, targeting, budget allocation, creative testing, optimization, and reporting;
  • Using platform analytics and behaviour insights to refine strategies and improve efficiency and outcomes across campaigns;
  • Working closely with issues management and media team to support incident response, public safety messaging, and crisis communications on digital channels when required;
  • Using AI tools to improve workflow, ideation, content creation, monitoring, and campaign optimization;
  • Reporting on campaign performance (paid and organic), audience growth, costs, platform behaviours, and recommendations for continuous improvement;
  • Leveraging tools such as Google Analytics to monitor digital behaviour, performance indicators, and insights.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education in Digital Communications, Digital Marketing, Digital Media or related field;
  • A minimum of 7 years of industry related experience or equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience;
  • Experience working with or creating content related to municipal themes, public service messaging, and civic engagement, ideally aligned to broader strategic plans;  
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media publishing/management tools;
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, their audiences, behaviours, and best-use scenarios (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.);
  • Demonstrated experience with Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, Reddit Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and other relevant ad operations platforms;
  • Experience integrating AI tools into digital workflows for efficiency and content enhancement;
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong storytelling, content design, and plain‑language writing for social media and digital communications;
  • Ability to translate complex municipal information into clear, engaging, accessible content;
  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills; comfortable working across multiple stakeholders and disciplines;
  • Excellent judgment, political acumen, particularly in issues management, comment moderation, and public-facing information accuracy;
  • Experience with operating SLR camera and digital video camera;
  • Experience with various AI and integration into workflow.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
