The purpose of this position is to assist the overall operation of the City’s public launch ramps in Lakefront Promenade Park, working in compliance to all relevant Corporate Policies and Procedures, By-laws, expectations and mandates. This position requires strong customer service skills and boating knowledge is an asset. There may be a requirement to assist in some Parks Operations functions as required.

 


Employment period is from April 27, 2025 up to August 24, 2025. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for directing watercraft traffic as they are launched and retrieved from the launch ramps, while ensuring the safety of pedestrians and other park users;
  • Respond to public inquiries and update the marina supervisor;
  • Perform daily life-saving equipment inspections;
  • Inspect the launch ramps for safety and report any concerns to the Marina Supervisor;
  • Perform daily shoreline and parking lot litter picking;
  • Weigh in fish for the Great Ontario Salmon derby;
  • Moderate lifting of supplies/moving boats;
  • Primarily working outdoors in various temperatures;
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Candidate must be a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with excellent public relations and organizational skills;
  • Emergency First Aid Certification CPR "C" required;
  • Knowledge of boats and boat handling preferred;
  • Green patch CSA approved safety boots required, runner style safety shoes and beige or navy blue shorts required; Shirts and hats will be provided;
  • Must be available April 27th up to August 24th 2025, up to 40 hours per week, weather permitting;
  • Weekend shifts and public holidays required.

 

Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.22 - 22.84 
Hours of Work: up to 40
