Due to Covid-19, most of our offices are currently closed to protect the health and safety of our employees, clients and community. As such, this position will be required to work remotely for an undetermined period. Once our offices re-open you will report to 300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

This role with the City of Mississauga calls for a confident corporate/commercial lawyer with expertise in negotiating and drafting a wide variety of commercial contracts in a municipal setting.

Reporting to the Deputy City Solicitor, Municipal Law, the successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of corporate/commercial, procurement and municipal law matters. 

The successful candidate will provide strategic legal advice and support to senior management and City staff at all levels.  This is also an exciting opportunity to provide analysis and advice to City Council on the legal implications of matters of law, legislation, procedures, and operational and strategic decisions.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that proper legal documents in respect of necessary by-laws, Council resolutions and reports are prepared, and performing other duties as assigned.   

Skills and Qualifications
  • JD, LL.B. or equivalent and be member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario 
  • Experience as a solicitor with minimum 3-5 years negotiating and drafting a wide variety of commercial contracts
  • Knowledge and experience in municipal law and public procurement law is viewed as an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing, and demonstrated ability to work on teams
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, strong negotiating and drafting skills, and ability to provide strategic advice and direction to members of Council, senior management and City staff
  • Effective time management skills, including the ability to multi-task, balance competing priorities and work within tight deadlines; and
  • Experience in developing and implementing proactive strategies, and anticipating and identifying legal challenges to protect the interests of the City and reduce exposure to legal risks



Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 112,976.00 - $ 150,633.00
