Job Summary
Create, maintain and share/post CAD and GIS products and data, including 3D models, for Corporate and external client/public use. Analyze, interpret, evaluate and prioritize technical data from various sources in the creation and maintenance of CAD and GIS mapping/visualization datasets. Provide technical advice, guidance and support to CAD and GIS product clients. Looking for 2 permanent (full-time) positions, and 1 temporary (contract) position up to December 31, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Team Lead, the successful candidate will:

- Create, maintain/update and post relevant datasets (such as storm sewer, cell tower, postal code, wifi hotspot locations) ensuring that the most current GIS information is available to all city staff.
- Maintain the Engineering Drawing Management System (EDMS) by entering engineering drawings into the system after completing QA.
- Provide customized GIS information and data products to internal and external clients upon request, while meeting specific deadlines.
- Develop, produce and maintain/update digital mapping and graphical presentation/display products.

- Create visual representations of spatial data in a way that is intuitive and easy to read, using CAD software (Bentley Microstation), ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Create maps/webmaps, dashboards and other services, and read/interpret engineering drawings, site plan drawings and Planning documents (Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw).
- Provide advanced spatial analysis and create operational dashboards for the purposes of making calculations and models about space, spatial patterns and spatial relationships using the ESRI suite of products.
- Creation of web map services and map applications using the ESRI suite of tools to visualize clients’ data to improve their understanding of the data.
- Create 3D representations/scenes of buildings and study areas within the city using ArcGIS Pro and the City’s terrain, planimetric and aerial imagery datasets.
- Coordinate, create and maintain all facets of applicable GIS datasets and processes, including functional guidance of staff and creation of applicable documentation including geodatabases and associated database tables.
- Test new software tools or applications and processes, identifying and suggesting changes and improvements.
- Assist in the development and documentation of visualization processes and standards including the migration of existing inventories into ArcGIS Pro.
- Convert spatial/non-spatial data from various formats to Geodatabase and vice-versa.
- Employ quality assurance and control practices in the creation and maintenance of spatial data to comply with the City’s spatial data standards.
- Develop relationships and understanding of internal clients’ business needs.
- Provide technical support and expertise to internal staff, consultants and the general public regarding GIS information and spatial analysis.
- Document standards, processes and timelines to build an internal knowledge base, creation and maintenance of metadata and support transparency in how spatial analysis is conducted.
- Prepare/issue status reports for clients and Supervisor as needed.
- Maintain and build upon expertise with current releases of ArcGIS.
- Be an ambassador for the GIS section and participate in team training, communications and events.
- Perform other related duties as required, consistent with the classification.
Skills and Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Geographic Information Systems preferred (or an Undergraduate Degree and a Certificate or Diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)), or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience using ESRI ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro is required and a minimum 2 years of experience using Bentley Microstation a definite asset.
- Experience in the development of 3D models and advanced spatial analysis a definite asset.
- Proficiency using FME and a proven ability in understanding and working with SQL and Oracle databases.
- Experience working with engineering drawings, development site plans, design/building floor plan drawings, digital terrain/elevation models and reading/interpreting land surveys.
- Ability to manage time and balance multiple projects or tasks at once is required.
- Strong understanding of CAD standards, map projections and datums, elevation models and aerial imagery.
- GISP or PMP accreditation is a definite asset (but not required).
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot technical and data-related issues in a CAD/GIS environment is essential.
- Proven ability to learn new technical skills and continuously develop capabilities.
- Customer Service-focused with good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and consistency in maintaining quality standards. Responds to deadlines effectively.
- Ability to provide GIS consultation and advice at a professional level.
- The successful candidate must be dynamic and flexible, and able to meet demanding client needs.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,080.00 - $ 92,107.00
Grade: D
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
Work Location: Civic Centre300 City Centre Drive in Mississauga.
Work Model: This role follows a hybrid work model as per policy, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week.
