Employment Period: Monday May 3, 2021 to Friday, September 03, 2021
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm and may be required to work weekends, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintenance and monitoring of restoration/naturalization sites throughout the City’s parks, forestry and natural areas
• Support City staff to manage volunteers on restoration and tree planting projects in cooperation with partner groups, ensuring the health and safety of the participants
• Aid in the administration of various city wide invasive species management projects
• Assist with the administration of various Forestry related contracts
• Removal of stakes and tree guards from trees off of warranty
• Support and assist with Warranty Tree  inspections and administration
• Installation of Water Bags on City owned trees
• Watering of young trees in City parklands
• Visit sites and conduct inspections to collect and analyse data.
• Assist with development-related tree preservation tasks.
• Operate small tools and landscaping equipments
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution as a full time student AND accepted into a full-time post-secondary institution in September 2021 or January 2022 (proof will be required at the time of interview)
• Background with  Natural Resource or Forestry education or  currently enrolled in a Natural Resource or Forestry specific program that deals with knowledge and identification of trees is preferred.
• Ability to perform strenuous tasks outdoors, with the potential for rough terrain and adverse weather conditions
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must hold a valid Emergency First Aid CPR "C" certification
• Must hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G minimum with a driving record that meets City standards (proof will be required at time of interview)


Successful applicants will be expected to meet the following working conditions:


• Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week), may be required to work weekends as required.
• Must report to work in all weather conditions  (outdoor work environment)
• Green Patch CSA approved safety boots, 6”-8” to cover ankle and must be made of full suede or leather material must be worn in accordance with the City’s health and safety policies and training
• Physical Demands:  lifting of heavy equipment and objects ;  exposure to vibration, unpleasant smells, fumes, dust, and flying particles; exposure to grass, weeds, trees and other outdoor allergens, animal feces and various insects; requires bending, climbing, walking, pushing, sitting, standing and repetitive motion

Hourly Rate/Salary: $16.05 - $19.15
