Job Summary
The stormwater drainage system is one of the largest asset classes in the City with over 1900 km of mainline storm sewer. As part of the City’s Stormwater Assets & Programming team, you will be responsible for performing technical duties in support of asset management and program delivery, primarily focused on design & work plan preparation for storm sewer repair, maintenance and drainage improvement works.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Stormwater Assets & Programming and with functional direction from the Stormwater Drainage Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Analysis of storm sewer condition data (e.g. CCTV inspection media, reporting and database files) to assist in identifying storm sewer repair, minor rehabilitation and maintenance opportunities
- Organize and maintain various prioritization databases (e.g. Excel/Access) for storm sewer maintenance activities and follow through with delivering priority/recommended works
- Prepare design plans using Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software such as MicroStation and conduct supporting analysis (e.g. storm sewer hydraulic capacity, Rational Method peak runoff, quantity take-offs, permit requirements etc.) necessary to prepare construction-ready minor drainage/sewer works plans
- Prepare internal work requests for various operations and maintenance activities and liaise/coordinate with staff in the Works Operations & Maintenance division to track progress, provide support and deliver results
- Review storm sewer vertical and horizontal offset exception requests, as needed
- Assist in the preparation of preliminary scope of work, conceptual plans and draft statements of work for capital storm sewer rehabilitation and replacement projects
- Support review of infrastructure projects led by external agencies to identify and mitigate potential conflicts with the City’s stormwater infrastructure
- Maintain detailed project files and documentation
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
- Technical diploma or university degree in the field of Civil or Water Resources Engineering including relevant technical courses related to the work, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in municipal engineering field; knowledge of the typical design, construction, operation and maintenance of drainage infrastructure
- Eligible to receive or obtained designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) would be an asset
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills matched by strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing tasks
- Demonstrated working knowledge of MicroStation and knowledge of general engineering drafting principles
- Strong computer skills in office software (i.e. Excel, Word, Access)
- Ability to interpret survey information, engineering drawings, specifications and details of municipal infrastructure (e.g. plans, alignments, cross sections, profiles, grading, topographic, etc.)
- Familiarity with NASSCO PACP Condition Grading System and ArcGIS would be considered an asset
- A current valid Class G driver's license, possession of a clean driving record and have the ability to travel between various City sites
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
Hours of Work: 35
Work Location: Civic Centre - 300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga
Work Model: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week and allowing remote work for the remaining days. Specific in-office days may be set by the team or department to support collaboration and business needs.
