Job Summary

Working with the City means you are part of something big, something special! Development Engineering & Construction is looking for a Coordinator to be a part of a team of engaging, enthusiastic and dedicated people invovled in the review of development applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Development Engineering, this position will:
• Lead and/or coordinate and provide functional guidance to a team of Development Technologists in their review and commenting of all Planning Act application types, associated agreements and technical reports for the processing of Draft Plan, Official Plan Amendment, Rezoning, Site Plan, Minor Variance, Land Division and Condominium applications;
• Review, coordinate and prepare comments on complicated and controversial Planning Act applications and ensure that the appropriate development conditions are incorporated into the associated agreements;
• Represent Development Engineering & Construction at internal and external land development meetings, including meetings with other departments, developers, consultants, the public, and outside agencies as needed, to provide information regarding City policies and procedures to resolve development-related issues;
• Liaise with internal staff and external agencies on the preparation of development engineering comments and attend evening public and community meetings pertaining to development applications as required;
• Prepare draft reports to Committees and Council regarding development application related matters;
• Respond to requests for information from members of Council, other departments, the public, outside agencies, etc.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario or a graduate from a Community College in Civil Engineering with a C.E.T. designation from OACETT or equivalent;
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a municipal engineering environment or similar public sector engineering environment;
• Sound judgement and demonstrated ability to coordinate work assignments and provide functional guidance to other technical staff;
• Strong knowledge of urban planning processes relevant to the engineering, municipal servicing and infrastructure requirements of land development, including Province of Ontario statutes, regulations and guidelines such as the Planning and Municipal Acts;
• Possess strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team;
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt quickly to change is required.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist in the preparation of reports and comments, and to interact with various internal departments as well as members of Council, external agencies, consultants and developers in a tactful and politically sensitive manner;
• Demonstrated experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is required;
• Knowledge and/or experience with Max, ePlans, SharePoint and Agenda Management is an asset;
• Must have the ability to travel between various sites and facilities located across the City.
