Co-Op Student - Transit Facilities Maintenance

Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Transit Facilities Maintenance, this position will be either a 4-month, 8-month, or 12-month co-op position, starting in January 2026. 

This position will support the Supervisor and Team Leader with the day-to-day maintenance of the MiWay Transit Garage Facilities, ensuring the buildings remain safe, functional, and compliant with relevant codes and standards. The role will also assist with facility safety inspections, health and safety initiatives, inventory and asset management, contractor coordination, and the creation of SOPs, maintenance checklists, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Support the Supervisor and Team Leader in day-to-day maintenance activities of the MiWay Transit garages.
•    Create service requests on building issues related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, roofing, etc. 
•    Respond to internal maintenance requests and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
•    Assist with health and safety initiatives including tracking Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) monthly findings, participating in facility inspections, and support implementation of corrective actions for identified safety issues.
•    Assist in ensuring facilities comply with all relevant codes and standards. 
•    Maintain and update facilities maintenance dashboards, logs, and spreadsheets to reflect accurate and current data.
•    Participate in inventory activities such as requesting quotes, sourcing parts, evaluating product specifications, and verifying delivery of maintenance materials.
•    Assist in the development and documentation of work instructions, checklists, SOPs, and procedural guides for various maintenance tasks and building systems.
•    Follow all safety procedures and site-specific requirements; remain alert to changing work environments and potential hazards.
•    Collaborate with other teams and departments as required to support overall facility maintenance needs.
•    Perform other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

•    Must have completed 1st or 2nd year of Engineering. Enrollment of subsequent year is required.  
•    Must hold a valid class “G” License with a driving record that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.  A Driver’s Abstract will be required.  
•    Strong computer skills and aptitude in MS Office (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint). 
•    Proficient in database management and manipulation, with the ability to input, retrieve, and analyze data.
•    Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing tasks effectively.
•    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with other teams and stakeholders.
•    Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and documentation.
•    Successful candidate is required to provide their own ‘Green Patch’ CSA approved safety footwear.   

Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53
Hours of Work: 35 
Work Location: 3484 Semenyk Court, Mississauga
Work Model : This is an on-site role requiring presence in the office five days per week
