Job Summary

Are you an experienced entrepreneur or business consultant driven to help businesses succeed? Invest Mississauga is looking for passionate professionals to join IDEA, our dynamic team dedicated to supporting early-stage and growing businesses in Mississauga.

 

As a key member of the IDEA team, the Business and Entrepreneurship Consultant provides hands-on guidance to entrepreneurs throughout their business development, from start up to scaling. You’ll design and deliver high‑impact programs and services tailored to the needs of early‑stage ventures and expanding businesses across Mississauga.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, this role advances the City’s strategic priorities by working directly with entrepreneurs, contributing to digital marketing initiatives, cultivating strong business relationships, and measuring real economic impact through data‑driven insights.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will: 

  • Contribute to all programs and services delivered by IDEA and the Mississauga Business Entrepreneur Centre (MBEC), focusing on planning and delivering one-on-one and group consulting, training, mentoring, seminars, workshops, and events on relevant business topics.
  • Provide direct client guidance and information via walk-in, email, telephone, web, and entrepreneurship programs.
  • Review and analyze business plans, providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Guide businesses on implementing digital marketing tools.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and deliver enhanced small business seminars, events, and training; create new and timely services and programs, including mentor, speaker, and subject matter expert programming for businesses from start-up to established.
  • Develop and maintain business tools, resources, and information, including content for handouts, articles, newsletters, and blogs.Maintain client records in CRM, emphasizing monitoring, follow-up, and reporting on economic impact.
  • Conduct ongoing environmental scans and analyze entrepreneurship trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Review legislation, licensing, and regulations related to small business.
  • Share insights and contribute to team and community resource development.
  • Build partnerships and strategic alliances with community organizations and government for collaborative programs and services.
  • Represent IDEA in the community through presentations, networking, participation in committees, associations, and events.
  • Provide support for City-wide projects impacting businesses and contribute to special projects.
  • Occasional travel within Mississauga and GTA for site visits, meetings, and events (valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset).
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • University degree in Business or Entrepreneurship
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years small-medium business consulting and coaching experience
  • Experience in development and delivery of training seminars, webinars, programs and events on a variety of business-related topics for new and expanding small businesses in person and with virtual platforms (ex: MS Teams, Zoom, Webex)
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms and digital sales tools for business
  • Strong skills and experience in digital marketing, financial and business plan development for small businesses
  • Ability to review, analyze and assess business plans and concepts to provide feedback to clients in clear and constructive manner
  • Ability to develop business tools and resources to support client programs and serviceSolid understanding of key innovative business and entrepreneurship trends, issues and challenges  
  • Experience in conducting research and analysis of business information, with ability to identify issues and recommend strategic solutions
  • Strong knowledge of business transactional analysis and report writing is required
  • Must be results oriented team player with strong professional business acumen and diplomacy
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Solid time management, customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Understanding of government programs/services, starting, managing or owning a business are definite assets
  • Proficiency in a digital environment and current/relevant technology tools

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
