Business Analyst, Economic Development

Job Summary

The Business Analyst, Economic Development, will employ advanced research, analysis and project delivery skills to inform and improve divisional priorities and services as they relate to economic development. This position within the Business Initiatives & Planning section of the Economic Development Division, will provide an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, innovative, and team-focused individual to shape programming and services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze local, national and international business trends and economic indicators to inform Economic Development services and initiatives;

  • Conduct assessments and reviews of key industry sectors to inform investment, entrepreneurship and marketing strategies;

  • Analyze key economic and business intelligence data to inform Economic Development services and initiatives;

  • Plan, research, develop and coordinate the implementation of project deliverables;

  • Assist in the implementation of benchmarks, evaluation and improvement of divisional services

  • Key contributor in the development and implementation of divisional strategic studies, projects, business cases and feasibility studies,

  • Develop innovative proposals for continuous improvement initiatives or new business ideas

  • Support implementation of marketing, research and analysis, and project management activities;

  • May lead and manage special projects and project teams to identify opportunities, solutions and action plans;

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business, Economics, Economic Development, Public Administration, Data Analytics or related field of study is required with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience
  • Demonstrated and proven abilities to plan, manage and complete projects

  • Strong experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, data collection and analysis is a must

  • Demonstrated knowledge of economic, business and entrepreneurship trends and drivers as they relate to municipal economies

  • Exceptional analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex and diverse sources of information, including large datasets, to generate impactful insights and provide strategic advice

  • Excellent and proven skills in communicating research insights through charts, tables, graphs, presentations, and written reports

  • Demonstrated proficiency in core analytic and graphic tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI), as well as demonstrated capacity to learn and leverage novel analytic tools

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy along with the ability to multi-task and work well with deadlines

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to support internal and external clients; customer service oriented and team focused

  • Must demonstrate good judgement, problem-solving, innovative thinking, commitment to an inclusive work environment, political acuity and diplomacy

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 86,858.00 - $ 115,812.00
