Job Summary

 

The Analyst, Business and Market Intelligence position is responsible for developing the research, measurement and reporting capacity of the Strategic Communications and Initiatives Division. This role supports the planning and implementation of business intelligence (BI) solutions to support data-driven decision-making across functional areas in Strategic Communications.  The position involves collaboration with the IT Business Intelligence team to adhere to the city’s Data Analytics infrastructure, standards and training resources.  Additionally, this position will provide technical expertise and research support to staff in the use of BI tools (e.g. PowerBI, EA Envision), and Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot), to enhance marketing communications and engagement activities. The Analyst will also lead the planning and implementation of a new divisional intranet site (SharePoint) to support team collaboration and consistent file management practices.  The Analyst will be the main point of contact with IT’s Sharepoint team on the design and implementation of the site.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Plan and Implement business intelligence solutions 

  • Coordinate a cross-functional Strategic Communications project team to review how divisional business units store, access and use data for decision-making, and to establish metrics for divisional reports and dashboards that will be used for performance reporting.
  • Develop project artifacts to support divisional planning and implementation of a City enterprise work request platform (ServiceNow), in collaboration with IT staff.

Provide technical expertise and research support

  • Provide technical training and research support to divisional staff on BI tools and work collaboratively with IT Business Intelligence team to establish standards.
  • Facilitate monthly work group meetings on business area use of the EA ENVISION business intelligence platform, manage shared resources, and organize training sessions to build capacity and encourage business unit collaboration.
  • Provide technical expertise and research support to Divisional staff on applying Artificial Intelligence tools to enhance marketing communications and engagement activities and processes for efficiency and effectiveness, in collaboration with IT and other City staff.
  • Plan and complete other qualitative and quantitative research initiatives (e.g. internal/external benchmarking) to support divisional needs.

Develop a new divisional intranet site

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of a new Divisional intranet site (SharePoint) to support team collaboration and consistent file management practices across the Division. 
  • Develop all required project artifacts (e.g. business requirements), organize regular meetings with agendas, and ensure effective communication among project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with IT’s Sharepoint team to design and implement Sharepoint site.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Post-Secondary graduate in business administration, computer science or a related field with demonstrated expertise in data analytics interpreting and reporting.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience working with Microsoft Power BI in support of marketing communications or related decisions.
  • 3 to 5 years marketing communications or related experience in applying artificial intelligence tools in a business context to deliver public services is an asset.
  • Experience using the Environics Analytics Envision platform for research, analysis and reporting functions is an asset.
  • CBAP (Certified Business Analyst Professional) or CCBA (Certification of Capability in Business Analysis) professional designation, or another BA designation is preferred.
  • A project management designation (PMP, CAPM) is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Visio, PowerBI, SharePoint and Office applications. 
  • Strong business, technical and analytical skills to understand, identify, gather and interpret divisional reporting requirements and translate data into insights.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in a public sector environment is an asset.  
  • Demonstrated experience documenting and analyzing processes to identify and recommend business improvements.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to multi-task projects, maintain accurate information, demonstrate attention to detail and to work collaboratively with others to deliver projects successfully.
  • Experience with change management processes, presenting recommendations to leaders, and providing training and support to technical and non-technical staff.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 43.19 - $ 57.59
