Job Summary
Are you passionate about the cycling? Do you want to help promote cycling and motivate Mississauga residents to ride their bikes more often?
The City of Mississauga’s Active Transportation team is looking for summer students to help deliver our Bike Ambassador Outreach Program. As part of the Active Transportation Team you will execute marketing and education campaigns, coordinate and attend cycling events throughout the city, and interact with residents to encourage them to get on their bikes and ride!
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Manager, Active Transportation, with functional guidance from the Active Transportation Coordinators, the successful candidate(s) will:
• Represent the City of Mississauga at virtual and in-person events throughout Mississauga to engage residents in a conversation about cycling and provide them with available city resources and motivate them to start cycling.
• Plan and coordinate local cycling events including community rides, bike repair workshops, bike valet, bike month, etc.
• Collect data, survey responses and feedback from events and prepare event report summaries.
• Track and maintain an inventory of display and promotional materials.
• Assist with the creation of new outreach program materials as required.
• Assist with promotion and execution of various aspects of Active Transportation projects.
• Provide general administration support to the Active Transportation team as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
This is a temporary full-time position from May 4, 2026 to August 21, 2026, with possibility of part-time extension into the Fall (weekend shifts).
• Currently enrolled in a College or University program, returning to school full time in September 2026.
• Demonstrated passion for active transportation and cycling.
• Special consideration will be given to candidates that have experience in outreach and education as well as interest and/or experience in organizing events, communications, public relations, and marketing and sales.
• Excellent communication skills (public speaking, presentations, writing) are required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
• Excellent organization and time management skills are required.
• Ability to work well in a team environment, and also independently.
• Demonstrated ability to apply excellent customer service skills with the public.
• Ability to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends, early mornings and evenings as required (up to 35 hours per week).
• Some heavy lifting will be required (30-50lb work-related equipment).
• Owning a bike and being able to ride up to 25 kilometres in a day is preferred.
• Must be comfortable traveling to various locations across the City of Mississauga and able to provide own transportation (use of personal vehicle will be compensated at an established per km rate);.
Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53
