Associate, Customer Service - Finance

Job Summary

 

Reporting to the Supervisor of Customer Service – Revenue, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering customer service and financial support within the City’s Finance Division. This rotational position involves both cashiering services and responding to inquiries from the public through various channels, including outbound calls, emails, and investigations of property tax accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Process and maintain changes to property tax accounts based on information received from Teranet, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, financial institutions, and property owners, while ensuring compliance with City by-laws and the integrity of the tax system.
  • Research for and respond to inquiries from taxpayers, legal representatives, mortgage institutions, and agents received via email and INFOR.
  • Process requests such as tax certificates, local improvement letters, statement of taxes, duplicate bills, and tax receipts, and ensure applicable fees are received and deposited.
  • Process various incoming transactions, including cheque and credit card payments, from mail and internal sources.
  • Balance transactions for daily deposits and prepare corresponding summary sheets.
  • Rotate between assigned duties and participate in a hybrid work model, with shift start times between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, business, public administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a municipal tax environment, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Completion of, or current enrolment in the Municipal Tax Administration Program (MTAP) is an asset.
  • Strong aptitude for numbers and the ability to perform property tax calculations accurately.
  • Excellent data entry, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with cashiering is considered an asset.
  • Ability to interpret requests, investigate property tax accounts, and resolve complex issues analytically.
  • Flexibility with scheduling and the ability to manage tasks with varying urgency and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with the public and work under pressure.
  • Knowledge and experience with TXM Tax Manager and INFOR software programs are assets.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 53,354.00 - $ 71,139.00
