Job Summary

Responsible for the instruction and coordination of a comprehensive Adult Digital, Literary and/or Visual Arts program(s) as outlined by the Recreation and/or Culture Divisions to meet the needs of participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating the activity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct comprehensive arts program(s) as developed by Culture or Recreation Division to meet the needs of all participants in the program(s)
  • Prepare and deliver lesson plans in the arts in a manner appropriate to the audience
  • Work with groups of up to 15 participants
  • Support the objectives and philosophies of arts programs as established by the Culture and Recreation Division through quality instruction and excellent customer and staff relations
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner in writing or voicemail with the Program Supervisor all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of the program
  • Complete facility checks before each program starts and report to Supervisor
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of all registered participants throughout the program
  • Policy and procedure adherence and provide quality customer service and information to participants and other staff
  • Advise program supervisor of any difficulties with participant regarding behaviour, registration, class lists, program content or any other related issues

Skills and Qualifications

  • For Visual Arts Instructors: Post-Secondary Education / Training in Visual Arts or Arts and Crafts including Painting, Drawing and/or Sculpture
  • For Digital Arts Instructors: Post-secondary education and training or equivalent professional work experience in Digital Arts including Digital Photography, Graphic Design, Web Design, Digital Sculpture and 3D Animation and/or App Design or related discipline. Comfortable using a wide variety of digital arts software
  • For Literary Arts Instructors: Post-secondary education and training or professional work experience in Literary Arts including Creative Writing and/or Scriptwriting
  • For Sewing Arts Instructors: Post-secondary education and training or professional work experience in Textile Arts is required
  • Experience working with adults is preferred
  • Must have a knowledge of and experience in teaching
  • Excellent communications and organization skills required
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR B certification
  • Physical exercises while instructing
  • Primarily community centre environment

Hourly Rate/Salary: 22.12 - 29.49
Hours of Work: Up to 24 hours per week
