Arts Instructor I (Cooking)

Job Summary

Our team is actively seeking dynamic cooking instructors for our City camps and/or programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the instruction of a comprehensive cooking camp or program as outlined by the Recreation and Culture Division to meet the needs of participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating the activity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct and supervise comprehensive cooking and camp and/or program as developed by Recreation & Culture Division to meet the needs of all participants in the camp/program(s).
  • Prepare specified lesson plans for classes in advance including arriving 15 minutes prior to class to set up and organize.
  • Evaluate and monitor campers/students progress.
  • Address questions/concerns from participants and caregivers.
  • Policy and procedure adherence and provide quality customer service and information to participants and other staff.
  • Communicate with Supervisor regularly regarding participants, program development and delivery and customer service. 
  • Perform administrative program functions pertaining to the operation of the classes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 16 years of age by the start of the employment session 
  • Before commencing employment, successful candidates must provide (at their own expense): **These are required to work but not to apply! ** 
    • Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR B or C certification (must be recognized by WSIB) which must remain current during employment period.
    • HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
    • Food Handler Certification
    • Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted. This is a condition of employment.
  • Education/Training in Culinary Arts is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of and experience in teaching and working with children/youth is an asset.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 23.35 - 31.13
Grade: PF
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week
Work Location: Churchill Meadows CC and Meadowvale CC
