Transit Operator Hiring Process
Step 1: Submitting your application
Transit Operator Recruitment starting July 14, 2025
- G Class Drivers: upload your resume, cover letter and a 3-year uncertified Driver Record from Service Ontario (dated within 28 days of your application), and answer job application questions.
- Your Driver Record must have 0 demerit points, up to 1 infraction, and no record of your licence being suspended or revoked.
- A-F Class Drivers: upload your resume, cover letter, a 3-year uncertified Driver Record from Service Ontario and a 5-year uncertified CVOR Driver Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation (both dated within 28 days of your application), and answer job application questions.
- Your CVOR Driver Abstract must show a driver’s safety performance acceptable to the City of Mississauga.
- No third-party records will be accepted.
- Candidates who do not meet the Driver Record/Driver Abstract requirements and candidates who do not upload the required documents will not continue in the process.
- You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been successfully submitted.
- You can update your contact information at any time by logging into your candidate profile.

Step 2: Application screening
- Your application will be reviewed by the Hiring Management Team and Human Resources.
- Only candidates being considered for the assessment stages will be contacted by email. Check your email junk/spam folder regularly.
Step 3: Assessments
Testing, interviews, and references will be based on job-related criteria. Request an accommodation for a disability, if required.
Test
- Candidates who successfully pass the screening stage will be invited through email to attend one Transit Operator Skills Test. Check your email junk/spam folder regularly.
- This test will asses your customer service skills, understanding of the rules of the road (up to G Class Licence), and written comprehension skills. Preparation is recommended.
- Only candidates who meet the expectations of all testing components will be invited to attend the interview stage.
- We will not provide individual feedback on test results.
Interview
- Candidates who successfully pass the test will be invited through email to attend an interview. Check your email junk/spam folder regularly.
- The interview panel will consist of the Hiring Management Team and/or Human Resources.
- Interviews will be conducted in person.
- We will not provide individual feedback on interview results.
References
- Candidates who successfully pass the interview will be invited through email to provide reference information and proof of your Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent. Check your email junk/spam folder regularly.
- A search of publicly available records may be performed.
Step 4: Selection
- The Hiring Management Team and Human Resources will discuss the results of the testing, interview and references to select the best candidate(s) for the job.
Step 5: Job offer
A conditional offer of employment will be made to the successful candidate(s) as a Transit Operator.
The offer of employment is conditional upon:
- Providing at your expense, a Criminal Record Check
- (Vulnerable Sector Screening - Level 3).
- All Candidates: Confirmation of a satisfactory 3-year uncertified Driver Record with 0 demerit points, up to 1 infraction, and no record of your licence being suspended or revoked.
- Commercially Licenced Candidates: Confirmation of a satisfactory 5-year uncertified CVOR Driver Abstract with a driver’s safety performance acceptable to the City of Mississauga.
- Successfully obtaining a Ministry of Transportation CZ Licence during your training.
- Successful completion of the training period.
- Successful completion of a nine-month probationary period.
Step 6: Getting started
- We have a comprehensive onboarding program to welcome you to the City and prepare you for your first day.
- You will participate in the five-week New Transit Operator Training Program, consisting of both in-class and on-street driving sessions.
