Transit Operator Hiring Process
Step 1: Submitting your application
- View Jobs: View All Jobs
- Click on the job that interests you and matches your skills.
- Click “Apply” and create a profile (if you are new visitor) or login (if you are a returning visitor).
- Upload your resume/cover letter and answer job application questions.
- You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been successfully submitted.
- All communication will be made by email.
Ensure to check emails junk/spam folders regularly for messages from the City of Mississauga. - You can update your contact information at any time by logging into your candidate profile.
Step 2: Application screening
- Your application will be reviewed by Human Resources and the Hiring Manager.
- Only candidates being considered for an interview/test will be contacted by email.
- Ensure to check your email junk/spam folder regularly.
Step 3: Assessments
Testing, Interview(s), and references will be based on job-related criteria. A search of publicly available records may be performed.
Test
- Selected candidates will be invited to attend testing and submit a 3-year Driver's Abstract
(with no infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points or accidents) dated within 4 weeks of the testing date. - For information on obtaining a Driver's Abstract visit: http://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/uncertified-drivers-record.
- No third party abstracts will be accepted.
- Candidates who do not meet the criteria for the Driver’s Abstract will not continue in the process.
- No other preparation is required for the test.
- Only those applicants who meet the expectations of all testing components will be invited to attend the next steps in the recruitment process. We will not provide individual feedback on test results.
Interview
- The interview panel will consist of Hiring Manager(s).
- Interviews will be conducted in person.
- Request accommodation for disability, if required.
- We invite applicants to interviews through email. Check your email junk/spam folder regularly.
Step 4: Selection
- The Hiring Manger and Human Resources will discuss the results of the testing, interview and references to select the best candidate(s) for the job.
Step 5: Job offer
A conditional offer of employment will be made to the successful candidate(s) as a Transit Operator.
The offer of employment is conditional upon:
- Providing at your expense, a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening - Level 3).
- Confirmation of a satisfactory Ministry of Transportation 3 Year Driver's Abstract with no indication of infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points or accidents.
- Successfully obtaining a Ministry of Transportation CZ Licence during your training.
- Successful completion of the training period.
- Successful completion of a nine-month probationary period.
Step 6: Getting started
- We have a comprehensive onboarding program to welcome you to the City and prepare you for your first day.
- You will participate in the five-week Transit Operator training program, consisting of both in-class and on-street driving sessions.
