Job Summary

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Web Coordinator, Social Media will plan, execute and measure MiWay’s social media engagement activities across multiple channels to support the Marketing Team’s content strategy and deliver an integrated online customer experience. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage MiWay’s online community through our Twitter account (@MiWayHelps), and new MiWay Facebook business page and Instagram accounts.
  • Plan, develop and execute content calendars in collaboration with the team and in support of MiWay’s content strategy.
  • Take photos and videos at events and write posts to promote MiWay’s involvement in community outreach activities and organizational achievements.
  • Collaborate with other internal and external partners (e.g. City’s Strategic Communications team, other transit systems) as required to coordinate social media activities.
  • Execute and optimize social media campaigns.
  • Monitor MiWay’s social channels and profile in the digital space, and work in partnership with Marketing and Customer Service team members to respond effectively to online comments and questions.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools and applications and propose new pilot projects for MiWay.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly social media metrics and make data-driven recommendations to optimize content.
  • Identify and share insights from social media monitoring with team members on a regular basis to inform strategies and plans.
  • Identify social media industry benchmarks and measure the impact of MiWay activities against benchmarks.
  • Conduct online research and make recommendations to support business goals and enhance social media marketing and engagement activities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the City’s social media guidelines as well as the City’s social terms of service online, and develop processes to support social media protocol in the Transit division.  
  • Liaise with the City’s Social Media Innovators group to implement social media best practices and new digital tools in the Transit division.
  • Collaborate with the Web Specialist to optimize keyword search engine (SEO) results based on data to deliver a positive and integrated user experience across digital channels, including
  • Assist with MiWay website operations, including content development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in digital communications, digital marketing, new media journalism, public relations or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge and experience using social media channels (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, etc.).
  • Minimum of two years’ experience using social media in a professional capacity, including preparing and analyzing digital metrics.
  • Experience using a social media scheduled tool (e.g. Hootsuite) is required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Excel, and presentation software is required.
  • Experience writing great content for the web in plain language, and developing other engaging content (e.g. photos/videos), is required.
  • Understanding of current and emerging social media trends is required.
  • Knowledge of website content management systems (e.g. Wordpress), SEO, web accessibility and digital advertising platforms is an asset.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop or other graphic design software for creating web graphics is an asset.
  • Experience with public transit is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to organize and condense complex information into plain language; the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent research and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a corporate and/or municipal sector is preferred.
  • Some work outside of regular hours is required to promote MiWay at events.
  • Must have the ability to travel between various sites and facilities located across the City of Mississauga.


Contract up to 1 year

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 37.60 - $ 50.13 
Hours of Work: 35 hour work week
