Job Summary

Effectively plan, motivate and deliver a personalized program specific to client’s needs/goals which will ultimately satisfy the customers expected outcome and ensure all customers to have a positive experience with the necessary supervision provided by the Personal Trainer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for contacting clients to arrange training/assessment times and adjusting schedules due to conflicts
  • Responsible for booking assessment room in advance
  • Responsible for reviewing Personal Training request sheet and Par Q health screening questionnaire
  • Responsible for enforcing PT no show policy
  • Provide Fitness Assessments for effective customer screening and program design
  • Must have knowledge of PAR Q interpretation.
  • Provide assessments (approx.1 hour in duration) and focus on body composition, customer goals, blood pressure/heart rate screening, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health.
  • Act as a health and fitness/lifestyle coach and motivator for respective clients
  • Responsible for program design/exercise prescription specific to client’s individual goals, needs, limitations and must stay within scope of practice for effective program design.
  • Effectively demonstrate/instruct exercises outlined in prescribed program given. 
  • Monitor and correct technique throughout exercise session and effectively adjust program based on needs and plateau peaks
  • Continually provide encouragement and support to clients and strive to provide a safe and effective environment for clients and surrounding members
  • Clean and tidy equipment as needed
  • Modify exercises with respect to principles of training for effective program delivery
  • Actively engaged at all times for safe and effective execution of all exercises
  • Responds to customer needs and questions with accurate information and/or guidance to resources and acting within scope of knowledge. 
  • Responsible for emergency procedures and perform as required 
  • Promotes other programs and classes
  • Informs supervisor of any issues
  • Completes additional administrative duties as requested.
  • Tracks clients progress and follows up with necessary requests

Skills and Qualifications

  • Personal Training Certificate by a recognized association including Can Fit Pro, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, CPTN or equivalent with annual renewals provided for validation
  • Completion of a minimum 2 years of a College Diploma/University Degree program in a fitness related field
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR “B” certification
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Experience and familiarity with common fitness training techniques
  • Strong program leadership skills
  • Primarily community centre environment
